002 Video in Violet City Inn

[When the camera turns on, viewers will be greeted by an image of Jeane casually sitting down on her bed, with 1 mop top-headed blue dragon on her lap. Unlike the last time she used the damn gear, she's actually dressed sensibly for a change. Shocker, huh?]

You know, when I bought that Deino egg a few weeks ago I really didn't know what to expect. However, this...

[She gestures to the dragon on her lap, scratching it on its head.]

-wasn't something even I'd consider. Seriously, this thing looks like a crossover between Ringo Starr and a dog, with some lizard bits sprinkled in for good measure. If I wasn't a fan of the Beatles, I'd probably be angry.

But I'm not. Even named him Ringo for good measure. Hopefully he grows three more heads when he evolves so we can have the whole band.

[She puts him down on the ground, watching him for a few seconds as he walks off screen before turning her attention back to the camera.]

Anyway, now that the update all the "cool kids" do is out of the way, I can get to the main point of this message. I've been in this place for about a month, give or take. During that time I've been watching the network. People give updates like the one I just did all the time, telling us about shit we really don't care about, yet the one thing I never see is people complaining about this place.

We're taken from our homes to order a bunch of animals from a video game around for no apparent reason, yet I can count on my right hand the number of complaints I've heard, not counting newbies. So that got me thinking, why is that? Is it because bitching about our situation is pointless? Or...is it because back home just flat out sucks.

[A smile creeps across Jeane's face as she shrugs.]

Dunno why I'm so curious all of a sudden. Maybe I'm just up for a game of "if you tell me yours I'll tell you mine". It's probably the boredom sinking in, but feel free to enlighten me either way, I'll be sure to return the favo-

[Right before she finishes talking, Ringo appears behind her on screen yet again and...walks right into a wall. This must happen a lot, since Jeane just pinches the bridge of her nose and looks disappointed as the scene unfolds.]

...also tips on how to raise a blind dragon would be appreciated. Thanks.

I suppose the fact that it's downright pointless to complain is the biggest factor, though I'm still endlessly annoyed with it. I'll admit that certain aspects of this place have endeared themselves to me after some time, but I'd really prefer to be able to come and go at will.

...yes, in that case, I really can't blame you. I'm from London, which is about as far away from what you're describing as you can get. Admittedly, I can't say it's perfect, but I'm generally fond of the place.

[It's a city but it has things of cultural and historical value! And proper transportation!]

[...well, that's probably slightly worse than all the crazy backstabbing going on back in his part of London...]

Yes, it certainly is. I suppose being from a place you can miss is a downside in this situation...

I will have been here a year next month, though that doesn't seem to be that long compared to some of the other people here.

If nothing else, there are some instances where you can have those things depending on what they are, but they tend to be temporary.

...well, I would hope not, but in a place like this it's hard to tell. I've certainly had to come to accept things that I would otherwise have found completely ridiculous during my time here...

Something seems to happen every six months that seems to cause a shift in the laws of this world, which is accompanied by having objects from home temporarily returned to you, being able to use abilities this place has blocked, nonhumans being returned to their original form, a great deal of new people appearing for a short amount of time... that sort of thing. It only lasts three days before things are returned to their original state, and afterward memories of the event tend to be... sparse.

[...has she even been exposed to some of these things, because if not he'll have to get all MAGIC EXISTS PROVE HIM WRONG]

...I suppose it is. It's far better than going mad, at least.
enjoymyatelier: actually, it totally will. (aha! a plan that will not end in failure)

I do agree, but I can't help but feel that it's better to be able to have a short period of time in which we are able to use them while we're here instead of having them blocked for the entire time that we're here. That, and the fact that these events happen to begin with means that there's a possibility they can be permanently returned to us.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-03-30 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The fact that it's simply a possibility doesn't mean it's not worth looking into. I do agree that if there's a conscious entity governing this place they do seem to be doing most things on a whim, but... really, do we have anything better to do here than to try and look into how this place works? Attempting to figure this place out is frustrating, but ultimately it's more interesting than most things this place has to offer.
enjoymyatelier: zach. they're here. (migrane's a comin.)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-04-07 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always assumed that the two would go hand in hand, really. I don't think there's anyone here who isn't interested in learning more about those events, given how much they effectively break the laws of this world. I'll be the first to admit that I'll be deeply annoyed if it doesn't lead to anything useful, but I can't know that until I've actually looked into it.

...I've learned to deal with it to an extent, but it still isn't pleasant by any means.
enjoymyatelier: maybe he should check the foundations, come to think of it. (red car. good point.)

Rest assured, I have every intention of following procedure. In this sort of situation, it's best to have as much information as possible before taking action, particularly if the scenario you're suggesting turns out to be reality. I am theorizing that it's some sort of being bringing us here, though I don't necessarily know if it would have a personal stake in keeping us in check.
enjoymyatelier: no seriously what are you doing (uhhhhhhhh....)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-04-14 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
True enough. Though, it's difficult to say if the reason for that is because most of the things people generally do here don't matter in the general scheme of things, while an orchestrated attempt to delve deeper into the mysteries of this world would.
enjoymyatelier: but what would that even do. (gradients of babylon...?)

[personal profile] enjoymyatelier 2013-04-15 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on their priorities, really. For all we know, they might not even be human, so things that purely involve humans might not even enter their mind. Who knows what we'd be getting into if we found out the truth behind all this?

...no, I think aliens would be equally idiotic, though given some of the things I've seen happen in this place I'm not about to rule idiocy out completely.

I was actually thinking extremely powerful Pokemon, given that the Pokemon in this world are the ones who seem to have the fantastic abilities.

Are you talking about the legendary birds from Kanto? I'll admit, this "Mewtwo" hasn't come up in my research, but... the Pokemon I'm talking about have more mythological aspects to them than the ones you're talking about.
